Sofa Cleaning TipsUpdated 4 months ago

Our sofas are intended to be simple to clean. Scroll through to see specific cleaning instructions for your particular sofa. Please note that we never advise removing cushion covers for any reason.

Nomad Collection (fabric): Blot stain with warm, distilled water and bleach solution (ratio: 1 tablespoon of bleach to every 4 cups of water). Allow the solution to soak into the fabric. If possible, place a clean towel between the fabric and foam cushion to absorb any excess moisture. Thoroughly rinse the fabric with warm water until clean. Please note that using tap water instead of distilled water may result in water stains. Let the fabric air dry. We do not advise removing the cushions to wash them in the washer/dryer.

Field Collection (fabric): For stains, spot clean with a mild detergent as soon as a stain occurs. We recommend using a solution like Dawn dish soap and warm, distilled water. Dawn is suggested because it will help pull any grease out of the stain. We do not advise cleaning with heavy bleach solutions. Please note that using tap water instead of distilled water may result in water stains.

For hair or debris, simply use a lint roller or vacuum.

Range Collection: Blot stain with warm, distilled water and bleach solution (ratio: 1 tablespoon of bleach to every 4 cups of water). Allow the solution to soak into the fabric. If possible, place a clean towel between the fabric and foam cushion to absorb any excess moisture. Thoroughly rinse fabric with warm water until clean. Please note that using tap water instead of distilled water may result in water stains. Let the fabric air dry. We do not advise removing the cushions to wash them in the washer/dryer.

Union Collection: For stains, spot clean with a mild detergent as soon as a stain occurs. We recommend using a solution like Dawn dish soap and warm, filtered water. Dawn is suggested because it will help pull any grease out of the stain. We do not advise cleaning with heavy bleach solutions. Please note that using tap water instead of distilled water may result in water stains. For hair or debris, simply use a lint roller or vacuum.

Please note that while Union's fabric is soft, cozy, and easy to clean, it's not as stain-resistant as Range or Nomad. If you're looking for stain-resistant fabric, we recommend Range or Field.

Leather sofas: Our leather, like all leather, should be kept out of direct sunlight if possible, as this can cause discoloration over time. Regular dusting should be enough to keep the material in good shape, but in the case of a spill, dab at any liquid with an absorbent cloth. If necessary, wipe it with a damp, lukewarm cloth and let it air dry. Don’t use any solvents, soaps, or other cleaning agents, even ones that are made of leather. Don’t use a hair dryer, either.

Velvet sofas: If you do find yourself dealing with a spill, don't fret! Because of its dense top layer, stains don't immediately sink into velvet like you see with other fabrics. You should have a few seconds to grab a cloth or paper towel to dab the spill with before it absorbs into the material fully. To spot clean, wipe away the spill as soon as it happens. If the spill, dropped food, or contaminant has hardened, gently scrape away the hardened substance before applying a cleaning solution. Dilute approximately 20 parts of lukewarm water with a mild soap or detergent and use a white cloth to rub the area with the cleaning solution. Rinse the area using a second white cloth and clean lukewarm water, then allow the area to air dry completely. Once dry, we recommend using the provided velvet brush to gently brush the area in the direction of the nap to return the surface to its original condition.

Relay sofas: For stains, use a towel to absorb initial spills. Spot clean with a mild detergent as soon as a stain occurs. We recommend using a solution like Dawn dish soap and warm, filtered water. Dawn is suggested because it will help pull any grease out of the stain. We do not advise cleaning with heavy bleach solutions as it can affect the performance of the water-resistant treatment. To remove hair or debris, simply use a soft nylon bristled brush or link roller. Soak up any excess water with a microfiber or lint-free cloth.

The rust-colored water you might see coming from inside of the frames is not considered corrosive rust. Although the outside of the frames is a powder-coated metal, the inside of the tubed frames is raw metal. The rusting water that is seen coming from the frames is due to condensation/rainwater building up inside the frames. If water is allowed to sit inside of the steel frames you will see some rusted water come out when the frames are moved. The best way to prevent this from occurring is to cover the patio set when not in use, especially when expecting rain, snow, or ice.

The primary care requirement for metal patio furniture is frequent cleaning. Wash the furniture with a sponger or soft bristle brush and a solution of mild soap and water. Rinse with water and let dry. Particularly watch the underside of the furniture and weld joints and be sure to clean them carefully. Avoid abrasive cleaners, it can take off the protective finish.

Mambo Sofas:

Performance Basketweave: Blot stain with warm, distilled water and bleach solution (ratio: 1 tablespoon of bleach to every 4 cups of water).

Top-Grain Leather: Our leather, like all leather, should be kept out of direct sunlight if possible, as this can cause discoloration over time. Serif Expandable Table + Chair Wood Frame: A light dusting here and there should be all you need to keep in shape, but if you accidentally spill, we recommend a gentle cloth and warm water. As for cleaners, only use products that are specifically made for use on wood – otherwise, you could harm the beautiful finish.
